We are delighted to have you visiting our online breastfeeding home! Allow me to share who I am. I was born in Colombia and learned at an early age the power of breastfeeding by seeing my mom breastfeeding my siblings. My mom worked full-time but, she took time aside to nurse my siblings and me. She is a brave woman that also managed to pump breast milk while at work. My aunts, cousins, friends and other relatives were all breastfed and they themselves were extended breastfeeders too. I have beautiful memories of seeing my relatives and friends in my neighborhood and everywhere I went breastfeeding their children and loving it! In my beautiful Latin American country breastfeeding/lactancia, maternal is the norm. Kangaroo care and breastfeeding are highly respected and cherish in our culture. My mother shares that her grandmother and mother and everyone else in our family invested in teaching and counseling and helping other women on how to nurse their children. I have a great appreciation for all that they did.
When I married my Taiwanese best friend, ten years ago, my husband and I prayed for a child. It took almost six years for us to conceive. Everyone on both sides of our families were beyond thrilled! I knew that I will nurse and was eager to learn everything that I could about the power of human milk. My husband and I invested a lot in educating ourselves and thought we were ready to nurse. But, when our son arrived, his doctors and lactation professionals didn’t know why he couldn’t latch. My son was tongue tied and it took a long time to find a lactation professional that was knowledgeable to assist our family. Through it, all, my son and I persevered and kept on breastfeeding until he weaned at 34 months! While nursing my son I studied to become a Certified Lactation Counselor with the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice. I then decided to leave my previous career as an Analyst in the corporate world and instead dedicate completely to my lactation studies. I am currently pursuing a second degree as a Registered Nurse RN. I am extremely excited to be of service to you and it would be an honor if you allow me to help you and your family with your breastfeeding needs.
